The club operates on a monthly competition cycle with each month's theme being a set or open subject.
Themes for the year are given to members in January via a Syllabus which has the Calender of Events The general approach is that every second month is an open theme (anything can be submitted) with a specific theme for alternating months (eg: Birds),
Images are collated on club night and sent via post to a judge for evaluation and scoring. The judge will attend our club night the following month to present their findings and scores. Certificates are handed out on the night to the winners, runners up and highly commended images.
Number of Prints:
You may enter up to 6 images per competition. 2 Large prints, 1 Creative / Experimental, 1 Monochrome and 2 EDI's (Electronic Digital Image) - projected onto a screen for judging)
Size of Print:
Large Prints - there is no restriction on the size of image for large prints, howvere, the mount MUST BE 16' x 20'.
Creative / experimental can only be submitted as a large print
Monochrome can only be submitted as a large print
EDI's must be the same as the set subhject
Mounting:
Prints must have a front and rear mounting board. The front mount colour is optional with black or white/cream usually preferred. Prints are to be mounted with the back board coming as close to the edge of the front mount as possible. This is to ensure prints don't damage another member's print. A firm backing board is required to stop bending and damaging prints in transit. Matt boards are available from the Competition Secretary or on Competition nights. Please dont use core board.
Once mounted the total thickness of mount and backing must not exceed 5mm
In the bottom left hand rear corner , clearly and legibly write your member number, title of the print, your grade (A or B) and in particular whether it is monochrome or creative / experimental. Please don't put your name on the back. These same details are to be included on the club entry form that must accompany the prints.
DO NOT use sticky tape on the back or anywhere else as this tends to come off and stick to other prints.
If prints are not securely mounted then they will be rejected.
Open Subject: Open subject indicates that the topic is open and any image can be submitted.
Monochrome: A monochrome print is considered to be a varying shade of the ONE colour. This can be black and white, sepia, blue or red etc. If toning is carried out, it must be over the total image, partial toning and / or the addition of an extra colour is not acceptable.
A monochrome print does not have to conform to the set subject.
Creative / Experimental: Creatrive or experimental photograhy displays a novel effect because of an unusual combinantion of objects and / or an unusual viewpoint. Photographs in which the images have been modified during or after exposure by using and experimental technique are eligible in this section. The photograph must always have a basic photographic image. Digital manipulation processes may be employed providing the original photograph was exposed and processed by the member and must contaion a minimum of 75% of an original photograph taken by the member.
A creative / experimental print does not have to conform to the set subject.
